Map Letters for April

Places around the British Isles.
Apologies for the photos. I am finding the coating on the map pages make it difficult for my camera to focus.

Q-Queen's Bower

I could find very few Q places in the British Isles and those were little villages. Which surprised me.
Quite interesting to find that to be the case in a place where 2 Queens have reigned over 120 years between them in the last 177 years!

(I muddled up the attempt to give the place name a green box like the other letters have. But it isn't so bad if you aren't doing a close up photo!)

Lyndell - next letters

Trying desperately to catch up.  I started off well but life is getting in the way (as it does).  But it is all good.  Here are the next letters still incorporating eco printing and versals done in pencil.  Still finding versals difficult!

Jac’s April Letters

I’m really enjoying playing with the gelli plate.
Now the alphabet’s almost complete I need to start thinking about how to put these monoprints together

March is gone and April is fast disappearing too!

My goodness, how time flies, as they say. Here are the next two lots for March and April.

Ok, I'm not sure I'm getting the intensity of spatter right, but I think it adds to the interest. There is quite a difference in the negative and positive shapes, especially the K compared to the P.

I have started making a box for them all to go in - like a little book shelf - and I haven't given up the idea of putting something else on each letter. I'm still thinking.

Till next month,
Meg (confuzed)

Is it April already?

I thought about a lot of different things for this square: ring, rose, etc. But Rainbow it was, when I found this piece of material in my stash.

All of the squares are done now and I'm about to sew them all together. Then it will be a matter of fitting the signature panels around the outside.

R for Rainbow.

JGR APRIL

Hello Alaw friends, I hope you're all doing well. We are enjoying a beautiful Spring in Georgia.

"I" is so subtle, you have to look closely to find the serifs. . .
"S" is quite bold, floating above the river . . .
"Y" is peeking out of the weeds . . .
"V" is waving from the sand dunes . . .

Thank you for visiting, have a wonderful day!

Wishing you all a happy and safe Easter.   Most of the children (we have four between us) will be here at some stage over the four days. are planning to curl up in front of the fire with choc brownies, do puzzles, watch movies .... bliss.  Of course if the sun is shining there is always the garden .....

I'm late, I'm late!

Hello everybody, apologies that I am so late getting started, but rather than offering excuses and I have many I'll just get on with it and explain and show what I've done.......at last.
I'm starting  with "the place" alphabet, I had to think about this for a while as some of my previous alphabets were about place and I did not want to repeat, but  my work in general is largely influenced by place. That "Place" is Ireland, and the landscape of the west of Ireland in particular, it is very beautiful, distinctive, rugged and wild and often wet, misty and grey, Its home to me and my people, we arrived with the Normans and once settled we are still here 1000 years later, some might think that unadventurous, I see it as content in our own place.
I have used collage once again, it is my favorite medium,  I've used fragments of photographs, some paint and ink as well as a torn letter, I used the letter as I liked the handwriting and it captures the idea that stories and memories also make a place. To bring the different collage elements together and to give a misty, vague feeling I covered most of the letters with tracing paper, which I now see makes the images look out of focus.
I may need to make this the "s" as there are allot of sheep coming out of that house.

This one does not have the tracing paper over it so much clearer looking image!

Parts 2 and 3

I've not been diligent in posting my contributions but I have done them!  The alphabets for February, March and April are here and the remainder will be done very soon.  Then I need to think how I will use the pieces.  The format is probably saying "make me into an accordion book" but it will be rather long....
